Ami Barwell?

I did a Google search on the term "music photography" and her website came up on the first page. Go check it out for some examples of excellent, creative, artistic work.

This is pretty cool stuff.

She does have a defined style. It looks like she has found her niche.

Canon 20D, 350D, 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, 430 EX and 580EX flash.

She has a very limited set of subjects and a style that easily hides poor technical images. On the up side, they are powerful images of interesting bands (especially The Dwarves, huh!) I can see that more and more of the concert imagery is heavily PP'd and leaning toward high contrast/grainy outcome ... I see it in Ami's work and in much of what gets posted here. I guess I'm going to have to try a few such images in order to compete. :-)

Definitely creative and powerful, but they look more like graphic art than photos.

She has a recognisable style though - which is a good thing isn't it? Read on her site what her bands say about her work if you get a minute. They like her. If the pictures grab you, the technique doesn't come into it that much surely? Well, only in passing out of interest ect. Maybe that's how you were saying it? It's kinda like someone catching a big fish and someone else coming over and say they used the wrong rod. But, they still caught he fish ... Like, Ami still gets the images.

cheers

I have to agree with all of these comments. Poor technique and poor framing masked by over editing and digital trickery. 95% of her work would never be posted on my website, but that's probably just personal preference... I tend to lean toward a photojournalistic style. But, she's getting rave reviews for it. I must say, after reading her "Quotes" most of it sounds just like pick up lines I have heard guys use on the random chick photographers with digital rebels at any show. "Wow, your photos are SO fucking awesome! Hey.. why don't you come back to the Holiday Inn with us for a while, baby?"

Well, she does have her niche and I wish her well.
