Digital Railroad Derails
Digital Railroad today announced it is closing its doors after an unsuccessful last ditch effort to acquire funding. Earlier this month they announced they were moving some executives into staff positions and cutting staff. It appeared as though DRR would be liquidated. In the early part of this week, they announced they were seeking additional funding to continue operations. Today, they simply closed the doors without notice. The following message was published on the front page of their website.
Doug Menuez - Survival as a Freelancer
This is the opening paragraph from an EP article and interview with Doug Menuez.
To survive the creative, economic and emotional chaos of a life in photography your career must be designed for longevity. To achieve longevity, you must reconcile the conflict between what you shoot for money and what you love to shoot. Ideally, you get paid to shoot exactly what you love to shoot, every day. Reaching this nirvana requires making tough choices, a careful business strategy and attention to basic business practices. (Or be super talented/lucky, born wealthy or marry a brilliant business manager.
Beware of Yahoo's "Smush It"
Yahoo has released a new utility to crunch down the size of image files and convert them between formats. Part of how this utility achieves file size reduction is through removing all color profile and copyright management information. That second part is what really creates a problem. The DMCA explicitly forbids the removal of any CMI (Copyright Management Information). Read more details about this on John Harrington's blog "Shame On You, Yahoo!".
Career Advice Please
Hi,
I came across this site in my search for some advice on any possible photography career that I may have. A quick brief history:
I have always had an interest in photography but the gift of a Canon 400D really helped me develop as a photographer and take it more seriously. My job involves travelling a lot and this has also helped. A website of my general shots is at:

Recently I have taken up my interests in concert photography and had some reasonable success. I started with getting some shots with a point and shoot in concerts.
Photoshop CS2 question
Hey, my version of Photoshop CS2 has suddenly stopped letting me work with type. What I mean is, I can add the type, but I no longer get the handles to resize or stretch it directly.
This has happened once before and I can't for the life of me remember how to turn this function back on.
I'm on Windows, XP Media Pro for my OS.
Man, I hate senior moments.
Can anyone nudge me in the right direction? Do it here so the answer might benefit someone else down the road.
