Suggest books relevant to concert photography (in English).
I own this one:
Concert Photograpy: How to Shoot and Sell Music Business Photographs
I guess that's the most authorative book written about the subject. I haven't actually had time to read it through, but it has some intersting stuff for even more experienced shooters. It is from the film era, and for instance has more emphasis on flash photography than what we're used to (I guess this is releavant because there aren't that good ISO1600 color films, right? And with film, it costs to take 20 shots of one situation to make sure one is OK.
I'd be interested in just photo books of bands, also. There is a nice Finnish book, Route 69 of the band 69 Eyes, that I like. It isn't available outside Finland, though.
Re: Books?
I like "Sessions" by Norman Seeff
I don't have many 'music' photo books, since I don't find them that interesting mostly ;)

Hmmm.. sounds like my book collection too!! ;D
I picked up David Redfern's The Unclosed Eye. Good thing about it is that it's mostly pictures, hence ever so easy to "read" ;D
I might add your book, Kalle, to my collection as things are starting to pick up for me slowly.. Making money from my hobby is a 'nice to have' but not entirely my aim. I enjoy it too much, burnout would be a no-no!
"David, what musical instrument do you play?" "I play the Hasselblad!" (David Redfern)
Re: Books?
Thanks for the references. Amazon order processing now :D
We don't have much of anything for it here in Aus. I usually buy the music rags and check out what others are doing, but that is about it.

Shooting for the love, but hoping to still eat next week ;)
Re: Books?
I own and have read Jon Sievert's book. It is now a bit dated in my opinion. The landscape of music photography has changed enormously with the advent of digital capture and publication. The players have changes significantly as well. There are some good insights into the music business as a whole and outlets to consider, but a lot of the references are older - even dating back to Fillmore days in San Francisco, California in the 1960's and 1970's. The book is 10 years old.

"Three songs, no flash"
"Three songs, no flash" arrived.
Not had a chance to read it yet, however had a quick look through.
It's an interesting book and worth owning. The photographer has been a working professional since the 70s.
The book isn't an in depth technical manual however it does break down different situations including different venues and musical styles. He also breaks down what to look for when photographing different musician types (guitarist, drummers etc).
He highlights some artistic techniques he looks for when composing pictures such as using the lighting plus clothing/props.
There are some good pictures in the book which help illustrate the points he's making. He includes with most of the photographs technical information on camera used, exposure and ISO.

I recently picked up "Access
I recently picked up "Access All Areas" by Dave Hogan for £1 in Poundland, Slough, UK
Ben is the Sun's (UK popular newspaper) celebrity photographer
From the Publisher
Dave Hogan began his photography career at Stringfellows over 25 years ago and has since shot every major pop, rock and film star and red carpet event including Live Aid and Live 8. He is Getty Images' and The Sun's celebrity photographer. Access All Area's is more than just a collection of his most famous photographs. Accompanying some of the most iconic images in the entertainment world today are the stories behind the shots, this is one of the most fascinating books of the year from the man with unprecedented access to the most famous stars of their time. This book is a fascinating roller-coaster ride through his 25 year career photographing stars from Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, U2, Duran Duran, Madonna, Britney Spears ( yes that kiss was one of Dave Hogan's shots!), Kylie Minogue and many more. A cultural stroll through the last three decades with amazing imagery and even better the stories behind the camera. Dave Hogan was famously run over by Madonna and appeared on the front page of The Sun with the legendary headline 'Maimed by Madonna'. Hogan's career is packed with fascinating stories and is an insiders view into the world of entertainment.
Although I picked up my copy in a discount store, it is available in the US via Barnes and Noble and in the UK through Amazon
Very worth having at these sort of prices. Read how he came to take that photo of Madonna kissing Britney! Would you get run over to get that shot?
