Receiving recognition for Outstanding Contribution as part of the NME Rock Photography Awards, Andy Willsher is one of the countries premium rock photographers. Growing up in Bedford, England, amongst like-minded music enthusiasts, Andy was strongly influenced by David Bowie as well as pretty much all of the Goth bands of the late 80’s. Joining the NME in 1993 (first job-The Family Cat in Crewe) Andy has been up close and personal with the UK’s leading artists ever since. Whether it’s capturing Thom Yorke smearing his face with ice cream at Milton Keynes Bowl, seeing Liam Gallagher point cryptically at the pitch markings prior to Oasis’ Wembley Stadium gigs or The Arctic Monkeys larking about in a snooker hall in Sheffield, Andy’s been there and clicked the shutter.

For the second in its Visual Identity Series the British Music Experience is excited to be welcoming Paul Slattery. Paul took his first picture it 1975 at the Lyceum when he should’ve been studying for exams. It was a chance encounter with Lemmy from Motorhead that meant that the life of a Rock and Roll photographer became a reality and he subsequently went on to photograph The Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Ramones.

The founding father of British rock photography and President of The British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies.

David Redfern’s career began in the twilight jazz clubs of 1960’s London. He risked his one and only camera amongst the jiving teenage crowds. The British Trad boom was under way. His first published photos featured Kenny Ball, Chris Barber, George Melly, and the old Marquee Club. These pictures were to contribute to what is now the most comprehensive jazz collection in Europe.
