When I came, smiling manager told me: ok, you can shoot the first band from near the stage, but then you can not go there on Sonata Arctica, because of fireworks, so you shoot from the crowd.
So it is, from the crowd. Tiresome, but went OK I think :)
1. Before the Dawn. I wonder if the composition is good here?

Re: Before the Dawn, Sonata Arctica @ Teatria, Oulu, 27.04.0
I think 3 & 4 are great. Well done!

I like 2 and 4 most, maybe because it really brings the atmosphere I know from before the dawn and 2 has a nice contrast of colors.
8 is kind of special too, its something different and 6 has a nice composition.
the only one that doesnt do it for me is 9 , the microphone is too disturbing on that one.

Just a quick note: if the images do not fit into 800x800 px box, they will be downsized by the web browser, which causes them to look bad (the size constraints are mentioned in the "rules and announcements"-section, but I'll put a sticky to each of these image posting boards as well).

This is not quite so ; in the post, a horizontal scroller will appear, and one can scroll. This is depending on screen resolution, and on 1280x1024 everything looks ok, no crop etc.
Everyone, thanks for your notes! Regarding 9, it's the most "dynamic" picture of the soloist, he is not normally exposed under lights and tend to run around the stage, effectively avoiding any opportunity to point himself under the light :)

On the first I find the composition a bit odd. Second guy doesn't contribute to the shot IMO.
#2 is nice. I would have framed it a bit lower however.
#3: Nice.
#4: Nice. Pity the fan is there.
#5: Nice, even though it's square ;)
#6: Crop off a bit of all sides.
#7: Disturbing mic stand.
#8: Nice, but some very strange things are happening with the colors in the head and shoulders.
#9: Mic stand and guitar player in the way...

No crop, but at least Firefox will (correctly) resize the image. E.g. if you rightclick on the image and choose "display image" (or something like that) so that the image is shown in a different window, the size of that image (zoomed to 100%, if your browser zooms to fit the window) will be larger than that of the one posted here. The resizing the browser does causes "jaggies" that do not look nice. I see these for example in the mic in #9.
Anyhow, please keep images in the future within the 800 px longer side limit - it is a mandatory rule (which can be changed - like anything else here - if you give good enough reasons) to ensure that our dialup users of these boards won't get frustrated and that those with smaller resolutions (laptops etc) can view the images without scrolling.

Ok, will remember the rule regarding size in future :)

Well, I like that white spot at the right :)

You mean the red light? I guess it's ok to have it - it traces some lines of the man's figure. Perhaps some spots on his head might be avoided...

Re: Before the Dawn, Sonata Arctica @ Teatria, Oulu, 27.04.0
#3 and #4 are most to my taste. In #3, the mic is a bit of an distraction since it is on his eye, otherwise very nice. In #4, there are just a few too many random elements that I feel are not meaningfully composed into the picture. I personally would have no problem in cloning out the other warm light at the top (the one that's half outside the picture) and the fan plus whateverthatis from the lower left corner.
I personally am a big fan of capturing essential moments, and in this series I feel that only #3 is that sort of a picture. Others are sort of "plain" moments. So maybe - if you agree with the "desisive moment" way of thinking - that's something you might want to focus on getting right? Just an advice since I know you are just starting. Not that getting compositions right wouldn't also be important.
