Hey guys,
Just wondering if all the newer CF cards work in the 1DmkII
ie-Sandisk Extreme III-20MB/Second
Sandisk Extreme IV-40MB/Second
and if they do work, do they write at the faster speeds or drop back to the 9MB/second of the type II card because of the age and software in the camera itself.
Cheers
Ricky
Re: CF card transfer rates
They'll work.
As for write speeds, see this: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007-6896
(there's also another chart for the 'N'-version).
Re: CF card transfer rates
Thanks Kalle, exactly what i was looking for ;D
Re: CF card transfer rates
If the cameras are writing at between 6 and 9 MB/sec is there any reason, that I may be missing, to buy a 40Mb/sec card as opposed to the 20Mb/sec card?
Re: CF card transfer rates
The only advantage i can see is how fast do u want to unload your images onto the computer via a card reader. ( i have never tried using the firewire or usb ports on the camera for transfering whole cards onto computer) so i don't know if there is a speed increase there.
Re: CF card transfer rates
Yep. You can DL a card twice as fast. Nice if you have 16Gb of data I'd imagine ;)
Re: CF card transfer rates
I just bought some more Extreme III's, as the extra cost didn't reward itself.
If i could find a way to clear the camera buffer instantly... THERE would be something i would sell my grandmother (sorry gran) for.

Re: CF card transfer rates
I don't know about canon but I know my nikon gear loves the extreme IV. I do notice a slight increase in continous shooting. I love the sandisk extreme series. They have never failed me.
anyway I have filled the buffer with an extreme III card. I have still to try with the extreme IV. And my guess would be that you will be needing the increased speed anyway sometime soon (with the next generation of camera anyway).
