The D3's high ISO is really impressive I'll remain at least somewhat skeptical until we can get a D3 back in the lab and test it under controlled conditions, but Nikon showed some incredibly impressive prints at the event. They had enlargements that must have been 30x45 inches or more in size, comparing identical shots taken with the D3 and Canon EOS-1D Mark III at ISO 3,200 and 6,400.
After the disappointment of the D2H, I have to say I was taking Nikon's claims of low noise at high ISOs with a rather large grain of salt. When I saw the aforementioned prints though, I was literally flabbergasted. The D3 didn't just surpass the 1D Mark III, it far surpassed it. Well, that may be a little strong; the Mark III is a fantastic camera, but the difference between its images and those from the D3 was anything but subtle. As I say, I'll remain a skeptic until we can test a production sample of the D3 ourselves, but if the images shown had any basis in reality (and Nikon would be foolish to have doctored them in any way), it looks like there's a new leader in the high-ISO / low-noise derby, and it's the D3.
Placed my order yesterday. Christmas will be in November this year...
if you get yr body when i think you will, christmas will still be in december. ;)
Let's just hope it won't be in january for you ;).
I'm itching to see some lab tests on both new Nikon bodies. I won't be in the bugdet to update on either until next summer, anyway, but it's good to know there is something excellent to update one day.
Now it apperas to be that Nikon users have also a serious body for concert photography.
This simply hurts... D3 is the firs Nikon model that has really made me think about chancing from Canon to Nikon. And worst of all it is presented right now when I'm looking for new body :)
I have wanted full-frame camera since 5D came out, but I wasn't at pleased some features in it. Continuous mode speed for example. At least in paper D3 has about every thing I need and the prize is at least some what reasonable. I can hardly wait get to test one.
Here's an another sample image gallery. http://homepage.mac.com/deinsel/PhotoAlbum17.html
One interesting point is an underexposured shot at 3200 ASA, which is modified with levels adjustment in PS with pretty good results!
The quality of images from both Canon and Nikon are so much better than my ability that I just chuckle when people talk about switching ... it's like people who always needs some special brand of car even though in a given wide price range they all get you there in relatively the same comfort.

Like I said, Christmas in November! Well, my camera is at the dealer but I can't pick it up until tomorrow so in a sense you are technically correct. ;)
Wow dear! Look at the range those NEFs have to push! The OP even provides the download link for NEF, and I am right now having one coming home. Gotta toss it to Lightroom immediately!
edit: I pushed it 4 (four) stops in Lightroom, applied yet curves and levels in Photoshop and sharpened a bit. This bitch is still viable for magazine print. Three letters: W O W !

I saw that post too Teemu, it really is amazing. I haven't shot to many shows with it yet but so far I am quite happy with it.
Re: Nikon D3
Sounds like some serious competition for the 1D series at last...
Re: Nikon D3
I feel like Judas when I read the specifications (I turned on Canon a year ago).
I found report of a Nikon press conference from http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1187901361.html which states:

Re: Nikon D3
Nikon USA has also released a new photo gallery. There are D3 shots taken with new lenses released at the same time as D3.
