James Brown @ Chumash, April 25th, 2005

Since Kalle says he's made improvements to posting here I am going to try it again with a few James Brown images. I shoot mostly at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California, USA. Part of my agreement with the casino is to generate a "Collage Artwork" for each event ... how this requirement came about is odd, particularly since I am not particularly artistic and I spend half my post processing time beating myself up over these things. Anyway, this is by way of explanation for why I even have these pieces.

#1

#2 I know this crop is bad ... I didn't really see what was going on in the background ... these days I tend to use many more focus points and would likely not get this effect.

#3 The large black block onto which I have put my logo is a monitor not a PP'd area to make the logo stand out! :-)

I have linked to three images and checked the img tags so we'll see if I can now post! The preview worked properly ... finally! :-) The post appears to have posted correctly, too, so I hope this is a good omen.

#4 Here's a full stage shot that I am editing in after the above all seemed to work correctly.

Fun to see some of your older work...

You have improved over the years!
Some nice images here, but some akward crops, blown highlights and blown channels as well. I see that a lot less in your recent work ;)
Also, your newer collages are better.

Thanks, Rene, we all like to think we are improving but sometimes it is a puzzlement, and all my small improvement seems to be the result of others flogging me into submission. Converting from JPEG to RAW by you is a good example. Using "cut outs" in the collages was forced on me by Chris Fritchie of Texas and making them less cluttered has been a constant request. Getting ever better equipment also helps. I also expect that my venue has improved mightily ... I know that they spend continuously on new equipment and technology.

So, I will be posting in this forum with the intention of getting more honest criticism and suggestions and help in improving further. I am still not converted to Photoshop from PhotoImpact which is a goal.

Thank you, Kalle, for all your extensive effort in creating this place.
