Well, different venue for a change...

Thought it might be nice to shoot a 'bigger name', so went to BRMC in Lucky, Rijssen.

Venue has a capacity of about 1200 AFAIK. Only 450 tickets were sold.
I guess 1200 would include the balcony, since otherwise there's no way that would have fitted in...

Anyway. Support act was "The Horse Company".
I was allowed to shoot the entire show of the support, and BRMC had a 3 song - absolutely no flash allowed rule.

I used the support act to get a feeling for the venue and lighting.
I needn't have bothered about getting a feeling for the lighting, since BRMC used Atomics almost exclusively for song 2 and 3. Combine that with lots of smoke, and not too much room to move around in (no photo pit), and you're in for a challenge...

It also was quite frustrating to see that after the fifth song, the rest of the lighting was used quite competently, and there were quite a few (not credential-led) photographers merrily snapping away, sometimes using AF assist lights and flash... Ah well.

So, enough rambling, here are some images:

#1: Singer of BRMC:

#4: Lots of smoke:

#5: Caught a few flashes of the strobes:

#6: The guitar player:

#7: Accidentally bumped the shutterspeed dial while wading throught the audience. About a stop underexposed. Bummer:

All shot with 1D2, 20-35L, 50/1.4, 100/2.0 and 80-200L
Exif is in there.
C&C appreciated.

That underexposed shot is by far the best... I like the atmosphere a lot. Some post processing tricks might help making the noise "better".

Most others suffer from "digital harshness"... probably due to bad smoke and lighting, as you mentioned.

Thought about noise reduction, and adding 'better' noise. Might give it a try...
I like the look in the first as well though.

Care to elaborate on the "digital harshness"?

Some PPing wouldn't hurt them, I think. Like adding more contrast.
For example, #5 is good looking photo, except it's just too red. Desaturate it, and add the red through ACR's Split toning?

I guess I meant the stuff that goes on when the lighting is coloured... It more often than not resutls to a very unnatural look that cannot be helped much (I hope high-ISO BW film is an answer to this).

I'd be surprised if it wasn't ;)

Not bad considering the smoke. I am again amazed at the redness of the red in #6. Smoke can be good and bad, eh? :-)
