Rules For Location Use?

I hope this is the right section to post this. A band has asked me to do some promo photos at an American Revolutionary Cemetery and I was curious about privacy issues. I haven't found out yet whether this is a private cemetery, park, or national landmark yet but would like some input when I do. I have never shot at a cemetery so have no past experience. Has anyone here dealt with this before? Do I need to clone out the names on the headstones? Should I ask them to consider a different location? Do I need a permit? I want to do this as a photographer, but, as a human and mourner, I feel a little strange about a loved one's final resting spot being defiled by a rock band.

Regarding names on headstones, if you can shoot from the backside the names won't appear. The weathered look will still be there (if that is what they are going for). You won't see some of the ornate work that the fronts may show. You will have to ask the client about that. Whether it is imperative that the names not be shown, I think names from long ago would be OK. Someone who's immediate relatives might still be alive is probably better to avoid from a privacy and respect perspective.

It would be good to ask an attorney on this, but I think all cemeteries are private property unless government owned like city cemeteries, and military & federal cemeteries. If you are bringing in props, you may want to check with the property manager at the facility to get permission before the date of the shoot.

I'm interested in hearing experiences from others on this one, especially US vs. other countries, though I realize that you need US information for your specific shoot.

you can always tell the band that it is too cliche' and suggest other fine sites such as railroad tracks or brick walls.

(that was a joke)

t0ast that is an excellent idea...hummmm...hells yeah...I can spam all the groups and give a way for the band to do the same. Bwahaha...BTW...I totally agree that it is way cliché but when in Rome............. :)~

...think about shooting away from the names. I guess it will kind of depend on where my light is that day too. I'm still waiting for her to message me with more details about the location. She did say it was in Golden Beach and I don't know of anything really public down there except for the actual beach and possibly a small park. I didn't know about any national landmarks.

as for legal issues I have no clue.

I would prob end up using photoshop to touch up the names so they are un readable, make it look worn and old. That or maybe change the names to the names of the members of the bands. lol.

That's actually a pretty good idea.
