Reputable / Non-reputable Equipment Retailers

Don Wiss posted a great web page some time ago that I thought would be good to share. It shows you the storefront of so-called discount camera retailers in New York City. Most everyone knows that B&H Photo Video, Adorama, Calumet, Samy's, Berger Brothers, and Hunt's Photo-Video are all very reputable retailers here in the USA. There are also a number of very reputable retailers in Asia, Europe and Australia for our non-US members.

This website shows the names and storefronts of places that are NOT reputable.

If you see a deal that looks to good to me true, always check out the website www.resellerratings.com to see how the retailer is rated. And if you have specific recommendations for equipment retailers that you feel are reputable and fair, please send those along. It would be good to get a running list of trustworthy retailers. If we get enough names, we will set up a separate page.

We may set up affiliate programs with some retailers whereby members follow a link from MPN to their site and MPN gets a cut of anything you buy from them (similar to an Amazon's affiliate program). That would help defray the cost of running the site (which is being funded totally out of our pockets at the moment) and wouldn't cost you any more for the same equipment.

How about repair companies?

Anyone have a great or horrible experience with any?

(Can't wait to get my CPS membership in the mail. It's been three weeks)

I've had excellent experience with both Nikon and Canon Services for repairs. Canon did some warranty work for me. Nikon did some damage repairs. I have not used any third party repair services.

I buy most of my gear from B&H, but I've also had good experiences with these retailers: Penn Camera (Baltimore/Washington area), Service Photo (Baltimore), Bergen County Camera (NJ), Dan's Camera City (Allentown, PA) and Roberts Imaging (Indiana).
