Here is an advertisement I received via e-mail. The band 30 Seconds To Mars is publishing a "2008 Yearbook" containing fan photos. You upload your photos and they publish them in the year book. Of course you have to purchase the Yearbook. But the best part of all is that "10 lucky fans will get their Yearbook signed". Woohoo! Sign me up! NOT!
30 Seconds To Mars 2008 Yearbook
I'm guessing the terms and conditions of their upload grant them permission to use your photos in their yearbook. The only way to submit photos is to go all the way through the pre-order process - not that I would ever submit any.
Has anyone seen other bands do this? What a scam!
LOL is there really people
LOL is there really people who would pay 60$ for seeing their photo printed in somewhere. I could understand if band would ask fans send their photos for free, but that fans would have to pay for sending their photo is about craziest thing I have ever heard of.
I could somehow understand this if the money from the book would go to some charity, but I dont think that is happening in this case.
You KNOW...
Whenever some publication tries the old "but you'll get GREAT exposure for the free picture" line on me I remind them that I work for a newspaper as a day job.
I've seen my work published on a very regular basis. Get complimented by people all the time for my work.
And I get PAID to produce the journalistic work I do.
So why should I give away the work I do "for myself" or worse still, pay for the right to see it?
This is worse than "vanity press."
