ethics of editing: what would you do?
If you saw the following in one of your shots, do you photoshop it out to save someone a bit of embarrassment?
Or does 'fixing it' cross the line of photojournalistic style?
(personally I edit. Just curious what others do.)

Well it looks like it's a VERY small part of the image so no one will even notice, but yeah, I'd fix it. It'd take 2 seconds.
Oh yeah, I fixed it before I even posted my question. I don't consider this pure PJ so, I do clone out certain things.
This is the image the crop came from, and yes, the shiny zipper was very noticeable. And was kind of comical considering the pose, so it had to go! LOL!!!

i would have left it. it makes the photo more valuable if they ever get famous. lol.
That's an interesting way to look at it. Cathy, where was the photo published? Who were you shooting for?
I was shooting for the band. The images didn't get "published" anywhere, other than my web site. And the band has copies too, if they choose to use them.

as a photojournalist, cloning out such things is absolutely forbidden, your reputation is depending on maintaining the integrity of the photo. However, you may Crop it out and be ok. For the paper, I cannot even clone out pimples.... sensor dust is the only thing we are allowed to clone, and then only if it doesn't affect the integrity of the photo (ie:dust spot on a pimple!).
But seriously, this is a 100% crop of the crotch, right? How big is the photo and how noticeable would it be? I have a photo where a singer had his crotch almost right in my lens and his zipper was ALL the way down, fortunately his junk stayed in the trunk! If he might be embarrassed about it, he should have checked his baggage before boarding... hahaha...
