Digital Railroad Derails
Digital Railroad today announced it is closing its doors after an unsuccessful last ditch effort to acquire funding. Earlier this month they announced they were moving some executives into staff positions and cutting staff. It appeared as though DRR would be liquidated. In the early part of this week, they announced they were seeking additional funding to continue operations. Today, they simply closed the doors without notice. The following message was published on the front page of their website.

Doug Menuez - Survival as a Freelancer
This is the opening paragraph from an EP article and interview with Doug Menuez.
To survive the creative, economic and emotional chaos of a life in photography your career must be designed for longevity. To achieve longevity, you must reconcile the conflict between what you shoot for money and what you love to shoot. Ideally, you get paid to shoot exactly what you love to shoot, every day. Reaching this nirvana requires making tough choices, a careful business strategy and attention to basic business practices. (Or be super talented/lucky, born wealthy or marry a brilliant business manager.

Career Advice Please
Hi,
I came across this site in my search for some advice on any possible photography career that I may have. A quick brief history:
I have always had an interest in photography but the gift of a Canon 400D really helped me develop as a photographer and take it more seriously. My job involves travelling a lot and this has also helped. A website of my general shots is at:

Recently I have taken up my interests in concert photography and had some reasonable success. I started with getting some shots with a point and shoot in concerts.
Pre-concert photos- help
So, after requesting a photo pass for an upcoming concert, I received this e-mail from the publicity team.
"Your work is amazing! Would you be interested in shooting the band before the show in a quick photo shoot environment? Maybe just some candid shots around the outside of the venue. If we like any of them, we can discuss terms to purchase a few from you. Please let me know so I can set it up with the tour manager. Thanks!"
I obviously said I would do it, no question there.
How many of you are?
ISO question...
Just cause I am curious.. what ISO do you use when shooting a show? I am really, REALLY new to all this and I am photographing the concerts at this years fair. It's an outdoor venue with decent lighting at night. I always go back and forth on what I think I should use.
JurassicRock 2008
Last festival for this summer, i think.

Motley Crue Pulling photo credentials?
For a second time this week I have heard from a fellow photographer that Motley Crue has been pulling photo credetials that have already been promised and have now laid new ground rules not to allow photographers in the photo pit but instead to photograph them from the sound board. Well, being that it is hundreds of yards away, and they will be playing in the dark, it will be hard going to get a descent shot of them even with my 70-200 2.8. Nikki Sixx being a photographer should know this, but maybe that is the point. Any of you heard about this or photographed Cruefest yet?
Foxboro Hot Tubs!
Anyone shot their show yet? If so, please let me know what I am in for, what kind of release I can expect etc...
They are coming to my home venue on May 26th, Memorial Day! And yes, I know it's really Green Day...lol. Apparently tix will only go on sale the day of the show. My contact is working on getting my photo pass too. I'll keep y'all posted!
