Who are you shooting next?

Let others know who you're shooting next. Perhaps somebody else has an idea what to look for and what sort of captures would work best.

I'll start :)

Iggy and The Stooges next Sunday. Any ideas what I should look for? Venue is Helsinki Ice Hockey hall, and I expect the usual 3-song rule (although I'm not sure).

hey kalle, as posted in POTN if you get more than 3 songs, you could potentially get a capture of the madness, when iggy commands fans to storm the stage during 'real cool time'. it was nuts @ the Orpheum, but unfortunately after the 3rd song, so i kept my camera in the bag. the surge of people killed a couple of venue seats:

if you are able to get close, during 'dog' he will be on all fours w/ the mic in his mouth, via the cord. would make a nice wide angle shot (the place i shot had no pit, and we were in the aisles...w/ a security guard sitting at the end, back against the stage. i got his head in some of my photos...bummer).

he's a very kinetic performer, and the lighting we had to work with made me wish i brought a prime w/ me. f/2.8 zooms weren't exactly the best choice.

Thanks again.

I haven't shot at that hall ever, but the audience participation may be limited - I'm guessing that more often than not the stage set up in an ice hockey hall will be rather high.

The main thing to consider in the case of the Stooges is the fact that Iggy sure is a duracell bunny, he won't stay put during the show. But he does a lot of posing, coming to the very front of the stage a lot, so I'm sure you should get some good shots with wide angle lenses. Not sure about how high the stage will be, though, as it differs from gig to gig...

Not actually sure if I want to tell you folks about my next assignment. It has a little to do with music, per se. Maybe I'll comment on it afterwards...

What instantly comes into mind from personal experience (I did it for the money, dammit!) Scandinavian Hunks who I photographed for Keskisuomalainen (a Finnish newspaper). :D

Next up is a Swedish metal band "Entombed" on Thursday if this flu doesn't get worse and I can be bothered. Couldn't really find out if they're any good photography-wise. Maybe I'll just go and try something really strange :P

Then there is a two-day indoor festival at Lutakko ("my" club), that'll be a nice magazine gig - no three-song rule and I get probably to choose (from a few bands) whose photo will be submitted - the writer is a friend of mine. The bands are mainly between indie and obscure :)

Just today was figuring out what'll happen in Oulu during autumn. It's all not confirmed yet, but hope to attend most of the list. Suggestions welcome.

Not exactly next, but I'll be photographing Marilyn Manson 20th of this month. Any advice?

Use a tripod. Fill your CF cards. Take backup cards. Bracket. Shoot RAW. Take off your UV filter. Charge your batteries before you go. Take extra batteries. Try to have two bodies in case you have a problem ... you are shooting Canon you know! (My second 1DMIII is supposed to ship today so I'll be the proud parent of twins!) Test your equipment once you are at the venue and then recheck your settings, particularly if you have shot something different in between (this one used to get me in trouble over and over when I was too smart for my own good.) Take some test shots before the performance begins. Get close up, full length and full stage images. You won't be able to use flash so forget it.

I think that covers it. The rest is up to Fate.

hit up richard/blackshadow...he shot MM a few months ago.

Oak Ridge Boys last night. Used all four of my bodies ... very strange but they let me shoot all night and from the wings ... the wings aren't worth the effort at the casino.

Dwight McCann

Oak Ridge Boys turned out good. I will be shooting Brian Setzer on the 27th for the second time.

Hanoi Rocks 31st Dec if all goes to plan
Nightwish 1st Jan

then not really sure just yet :)

Helldone-festival, or at least the bands Fields of The Nephilim (UK) and HIM (FIN).

Helldone festival (except for HIM, don't know anything about the last day yet) and Nightwish.

...and Kalle, have you been 100% confirmed to shoot HIM? I have heard they'll have a house photog this year? (Meaning Ville Juurikkala, I guess?)

Oh, man, those "House Photographers" are a huge pain ... oh, no, wait, I forgot ... that's what I am! But I am VERY nice to visiting togs although I do hear horror stories about others that aren't very nice. I am fortunate that I don't have to compete against anyone ... the casino pays me without regard to any other media. The only togs that get a better deal than me are the ones with the bands themselves and I get to sleep in my own bed every night.
